You can judge the health of a nation by the health of its soil.
To create compost bins that enable every community in New Zealand the opportunity to hot compost all of their own compostable "waste", providing them with a rich and vibrant natural fertiliser that will enrich their local soils and therefore allow for the production of nutritious fruit and vegetables, decreased soil erosion, decreased surface flooding, increased carbon sequestration, and increased community involvement.
What is Organic Waste?
At New Zealand Box we don't believe there is such a thing as organic "waste". It is a term used to collectively describe food waste, garden waste and basically the remains of anything that used to be living. However, it is not waste at all! It is a very valuable resource that should remain in the community.
There is no such thing as "waste" in nature. Every living thing grows, dies, and then decays returning nutrients into the soil to nourish future life.
Imagine a future where all the food scraps, garden clippings, and compostable packaging within a community are collected by electric bikes or electric vehicles (all charged from 100% renewable energy of course!) and taken to a local hot composting site where that organic resource is processed through a simple, clean, smell free, rat proofed system that produces the highest possible quality of organic fertiliser. This soil-enriching compost is then used by local food growers to produce an abundance of cheap, and nutritious fruit and veggies to feed that community.
Or maybe we're just crazy...
